Salted Caramel Protein Donuts
One for the salted caramel lovers! Another low calorie donut recipe made using salted caramel extract.
If you have more carbs to play with try soaking dates in hot water for 30 minutes then blending them with honey to form a "caramel" to put in the centre of each donut - yum!
Servings: Makes 9 donuts
Macros per donut:
63kcal / 7g protein / 4.5g carbs / 1.5g fat / 1.5g fibre
For Donut:
40g coconut flour (I used one by Tiana from Holland & Barratt but this is also available in the baking aisle in large Tesco/Sainsbury/Waitrose stores).
25g chocolate protein powder
60g Apple Sauce (I used Waitrose Essential Bramley Apple Sauce)
80g egg whites
1 whole egg
1/2 tsp salted caramel extract
10g cocoa powder (I used Green & Blacks Organic)
1/2 tsp baking powder
50ml semi skimmed milk (or other milk of choice)
To decorate:
50g Choc Shot (available in hot chocolate aisle of most supermarkets)
Caramel Topping of Choice (I used 20g Caramel Curls from the baking section at Waitrose)
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 180c (or preheat donut maker as per instructions if using one).
2. Place all donut ingredients in a blender & mix until thick.
3. Spoon mix into donut maker & cook for 3 minutes. If using a donut mould spray using 1 calorie cooking spray (such as Fry Light Butter Spray) & place in oven for approx 25 minutes.
4. Allow donuts to cool - Top with Choc Shot & sprinkles.
6. Eat! :-)
